We are a group of enthusiastic new music teachers who meet regularly to share
our teaching ideas and experiences. We are students who are eager to learn from and interact with music
professionals in the community. We are advanced (RCM Grade 10 or Diploma level) music students who wish to
further our musical development through the practice of teaching. We are an organization sponsored by the Vancouver branch of the BC Registered
Music Teachers’ Association.
|
|
We invite experienced teachers, composers, examiners, and other music
professionals to our monthly meetings to speak to us in a small, informal group
setting about a given topic. We have organized activities for our students such as recitals, master classes, mock exams and a practice-a-thon We present a Scholarship Benefit Recital to raise funds for students which are awarded at the Annual Scholarship Competition
|
|
To help us become a well-rounded musical organization, we strongly encourage
music students of all disciplines (piano, voice, wind, strings, and brass) to
join our group!

|
“Its been great for networking and learning and its such a friendly
group!” “I’m so glad that we’re helping our own students in concrete ways like
having the Annual Scholarship Competition.” “Linda Niamath was wonderful!”

You must be at a RCM Grade 10 level or higher including theory requirements. You must be currently studying with a member of the Vancouver branch of the
BC Registered Music Teachers’ Association. Once a degree or diploma is granted, membership is valid for up to four more
years. Membership is valid for up to seven years in total, not necessarily in
succession. It is expected and highly encouraged that members will be currently teaching
or have the intent to teach within the first year of membership. Attendance is expected at a minimum of seven of the ten planned events.
|
|
For a nominal annual fee you are entitled to membership which includes a
group insurance policy granted to all members of the parent branch. You will
also have access to all events of the parent branch including all workshops and
the opportunity to enter students into the Student Performer’s Guild Festival.
After active participation in the Student Teachers’ Auxiliary you will be
considered for membership into the parent branch of the BC Registered Music
Teachers’ Association. Membership and participation in the STA is an excellent
way to gain confidence and skills in teaching in a friendly and supportive
environment.
