CONGRATULATIONS FOR A SUCCESSFUL CONFERENCE!

A big congratulations to the BCRMTA 2016 Provincial Conference committee, led by Jammy Smith, for organizing and hosting a very successful conference on September 23 and 24. Thank you once again to all involved for your hard work and dedication in the past three years.

ELECTION OF THE 2017 EXECUTIVE BOARD

Nominations will be accepted by the Chair of the Nominations Committee, Jammy Smith. All nominations must be received in writing no later than December 31, 2016. Nominations must be proposed and seconded by two (2) members in good standing and nominees must signify their willingness to stand for election. In order to propose, or to second, or to accept a nomination, members must have attended at least two (2) General Meetings of the Branch since the AGM in January 2016.

The following nominations have been proposed:

Treasurer: Martha Brickman
Recording Secretary: Mary McKinney
Correspondence Secretary: Cindy Leung

The remainder of the Committee members will be confirmed by the new Executive.

STUDENT PERFORMERS’ GUILD UPDATE

Application deadline for the SPG Festival 2017 is Sunday, March 5, 2017. The adjudicators of the festival are:

Junior division, Christopher Kin Ming Wong,
Intermediate division, Martha Brickman,
Senior division, Ian Parker,
Adult division, Ellen Silverman,
Ensemble and Concerto, Win Rompf.

The BCRMTA Intermediate Scholarship Award in the amount of $500 is being donated by the Berverly Kagnoff estate and will be renamed The Berverly Kagnoff Intermediate Scholarship Award for the next 10 years starting May 2017.

The BCRMTA Senior Scholarship Award in the amount of $1,000 will be renamed to Mary Tickner Senior Scholarship Award to honour her enormous contribution to our association for the next 10 years starting May 2017.

NEW DESIGNATION FOR THEORY SPECIALIST

The name of the discipline “Theory Specialist” has been changed to “Professional Theory Instructor”. Please visit www.bcrmta.bc.ca (scroll to the bottom of the main page) or refer to the last three pages of the newsletter for complete details.

STUDENT TEACHERS’ AUXILIARY NEWS

The STA has had a full few months so far. At our potluck dinner in August (when we dined outside back when it was sunny and warm), we planned for the years’ events. Up to December 2016, STA events include the following:

September 18 An inside look at the new Teacher Certificate Program as well as an overview of the new theory syllabus
November 6 Kodaly workshop with Jo Yawney
November 13 Behzod Abduraimov recital at the Chan Centre including a pre-concert lecture
December 11 Tour of the newly renovated Canadian Music Centre

The STA looks forward to more exciting workshops in 2017.
